    SCIENCE NIGHT
    GRADE LEVEL PROJECT COORDINATORS NEEDED

    Hello, Blaine Science Night Enthusiasts!

We are hard at work in preparing for this year's SCIENCE NIGHT! The first and most important role for us to fill is Project Coordinators for each grade level cluster. Grades K-1 will compete, Grades 2-3 will compete, and grades 4-5 will compete. The teachers are in the process of selecting this year's Science Night events and will provide for you the paperwork. The job of the coordinators, then, will be two-part: To photocopy and distribute the information sheet to the families of their grade level cluster (K-1, 2-3, or 4-5), and then to oversee the actual competition for their event on May 20th (approximately one hour). The job is not big, but it is important. Please sign up below if you would like to serve as a Science Night Coordinator this year for your a certain grade level.

    SPRING FLING (A K-8 Family Dance): May 8th, 6:30-9pm
This year's 4th grade fundraising team is putting a new spin on this event which, in the past, has been called the Father/Daughter dance. In an effort to make sure that Catharine Blaine families of all types feel welcome, we are planning a Spring Fling. Any Blaine student is welcome to attend with a dad, mom, or special adult in their life! Of course, if the Father/Daughter dance fits your family and you want to keep that tradition going, that's great too!!

This is a 'dressy' event so come dressed up and ready to dance the evening away to DJ Ray. There will also be a brief dance lesson from the lovely Ms. Pickens.

Tickets will be $20 per family in advance or $30 per family at the door (up to capacity). Tickets will be available to purchase online beginning the week after Spring Break. We are also pre-selling beautiful silk flower wrist corsages and boutonnieres for $5 each. If there are extras, they will also be for sale at the dance!

As in past years, we will have a professional photographer on site to snap a commemorative keepsake photo for kids and their 'dates'.

Proceeds from this event help offset the cost of Island Wood Camp for next year's 5th grade class. Island Wood Camp is a four-day, three-night educational immersion program for students and faculty, which is held at the beautiful 225 acre outdoor campus on Bainbridge Island. It is a huge highlight for every 5th grader at Blaine! The camp costs just over $300 per student, so our students and their families hold fundraisers for the twelve months prior to help mitigate this expense for all students. Thank you for your support!

Catharine Blaine Literacy Night, Fall 2014 Volunteer Sign Up
Blaine's FEAT Team (Family Engagement Action Team) is looking forward to the first free Family Academic Night of the new school year!

On Wed, October 22nd, we'll host Blaine families at LITERACY NIGHT. Families will move throughout the school, participating in fun activities and enjoying free treats. The evening has purposely been planned so that families with multiple children will be able to comfortably navigate the entire event with one parent/caregiver, if needed (There will be no break-out sessions or parent classes at this time).

If you are able to help us by volunteering for the evening, please let us know. Volunteers are needed from 5:45-7:45pm. If you know of a high schooler who would like to volunteer for service hour credit, please pass the invitation along as well.

    Thanks, and GO TIGERS!
